These terms apply when you use the site. If you do not accept them, please do not use it.
Forecasts and scores are estimates
We score places from public forecasts, climate records, maps and other open data (how we score). Forecasts are often wrong, and data can be out of date or missing. A score is our estimate of how good a trip may be. It is not a statement of fact, and not a promise about the waves, wind, snow or anything else.
Nothing on the site is advice. We score the conditions and the trip, not the risk to you. We do not judge whether a place is safe for you on the day.
Check conditions locally
Before you go in the water, on the mountain or under the surface, check local forecasts, warnings, signs and lifeguards, and ask people who know the place. Only you can judge your own skill, fitness and kit. Never rely on this site alone to decide whether it is safe to go.
Avalanche danger levels come from the official bulletins we name, and can be out of date by the time you read them. Many resorts have none from us. Before you go off-piste, read that day's bulletin itself.
Forecast alerts are emailed when we can. One can arrive late, or not at all, so do not wait on an alert to check a place you care about.
Bookings are with our partners
Links marked Ad take you to partners such as hotel, flight and car hire sites (how we earn). Anything you book there is a contract between you and that partner, on the partner's terms. We do not sell travel, take payments or hold bookings. Prices, availability and changes are for the partner to answer; we may be paid a commission, which never changes a score.
Webcams, maps and other sites we link to are run by others. We do not control them and are not responsible for them.
Our liability
The site is free and offered as it is. We work to keep it right, but we do not promise that it is complete, up to date or always there.
Where to go, when, and whether to go in at all are your decisions. We are not responsible for a partner's service, for losses we could not have foreseen, or for any business loss.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not let us limit.
Photos and content
The photos of places are from Wikimedia Commons, by their own authors, under the licences shown with each one and on the credits page. To reuse a photo, follow its own licence. Maps are drawn from OpenStreetMap and OpenFreeMap, under their licences.
The rest of the site, its words, design and scores, belongs to us. You may link to any page and share it. Do not copy the site or its data in bulk, and do not try to break or overload it.
None of this limits an open licence. Text and data under one, such as Wikipedia's text (CC BY-SA 4.0) and our tables made from OpenStreetMap (ODbL), stay under that licence. They are credited where they are shown and on How it works. The open data page says how to get our tables made from OpenStreetMap.
Privacy
We set no cookies of our own, apart from one if you ask us not to count your visits, and our host sets none for visitors. How we handle your data is on the privacy page.
Changes
We may change these terms as the site changes. The date at the foot says when they last did. If a part of them cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.
The law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts can hear any dispute. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can also go to your own courts.
